Dear Microsoft, We have had enough. With the announcement of the Xbox One and the confirmation of a fee that must be paid in order to play used or pre-owned games, it has become obvious that you have lost touch with reality. This aggressive tactic, along with several other choices made by your company concerning the Xbox One, shows a complete disregard and lack of respect for your audience. The choice to charge fees for pre-owned games proves our suspicions that you do not care or believe in the rights of your paying customers. Your fee is nothing more than an exercise in greed and a lust for control over the property that we, as your customers, purchase with our hard-earned money. Nothing else demonstrates this fact more than the words of your very own vice president, Phil Harrison: "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like." Permission. According to your mindset, we do not own the games we pay for. We merely have the permission to play them. And why should we complain? It's not like we own the cars we pay for. Or the computers. Or the houses. Or any other number of valuable things we buy. We merely have the permission to use them, right? Here's the truth: We do own the games we buy. We can do whatever we wish with them because we paid for them. The only right we do not have is to reproduce them. That right is reserved for you. All else stops once we purchase them. What you are trying to do is commandeer our basic rights as consumers and take away what we already own. You want a monopoly on our rights to do what we wish with our property Therefore, we, the signers of this petition, refuse to purchase the Xbox One or any games, peripherals or services related to it until the decision to charge fees for used and pre-owned games is lifted and eliminated.
