This is a huge issue. The insurance will pay to put it in. Mine was $26,000 on State provided insurance. My fills were covered. I moved from Wisconsin to AZ, and got on the State Insurance here, only 1 doctor here took my insurance. They are the ones, who I saw for the pain in my side I was having, they pulled fluid out, it was dirty. They just put some saline in, and sent me out the door. And said I should follow up for a consult for bypass. I then left here to go to Colorado, the bariatric doc put in to take it out, but the insurance only approved port removal. ??? Why would they leave the rest of the band in. So I left and went back to Wis, and had the original surgeon fix it. Which failed again in 2013. At the time of removal, I had no insurance, I had to go through the ER to get help. That bill was $30,000. I find it sad that people take out loans, just to try and get the thing out... Praying for you to get some resolve. The manufacturer, should pay for your removal !!!!!!

I was sold on the device, as they told me it was a life time device. I remember asking them, well what about when I get old, and can't feed myself? I guess it would have to be a pureed consistency, because you have to chew chew chew. So yeah the intention was for it to be a lifetime device. This is where there was a lack of studies, and research done.

It is horrible when you don't have money, or insurance to get in to the doc. I was never told that if I move, that it would be so difficult to get another bariatric to see you, or a hospital to refuse you care in the ER, because they don't want to call a bariatric in. Or any doctor at that. If you do get the chance to get into a pain clinic, have them do test for ACNES... Abdominal Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome. Sounds like the same issues I have with stomach spasms. Prayers to you !

Banded January 2015. By March 2018 the Lap Band slipped and had to emergency surgery to remove it. Terrible freighting experience. Acid reflex, vomiting, pain in port area, vomiting during sleep, hair loss, depression... the list goes on and on. Not to mention the pain in the port area filled with massive scare tissue that is remains painful to this very day and the Lapband has been removed now over 2 years. Never will be the same.

Banded 2013. Can’t get a dr to see me without $250 to $1000 up front. Company that put mine in went out of business. That dr is now a family practitioner. I’m having muscle spasms across my abdomen and pain when I lay on my stomach. Can’t afford to have it checked. Insurance will not cover because it’s cosmetic surgery.

I've had my lapband for 15 years now.
Was never told this thing has a 5 to 9 years shelf life.
Its kind of forced me to be a bulimic person. It did it job for a short amount of time but other than that i was horrible.
I'm trying to get mine out now.

This band needs to be removed from the market and recalled for that were implanted, it’s dangerous and those of us that have had them were lied to. We were told that they were safe and the best option. No they are not!
