Contra Costa County recently banned the Concord Lazy Dog restaurant from allowing dogs to accompany their owners in the outdoor dining area.
There are thousands of dog owners in the county who consider dogs a part of the family. Many local restaurant owners have chosen to allow dogs in outdoor or patio dining areas. This decision is good for the businesses and for the dog owners as well.
Barring one single restaurant from offering the same amenity that other restaurants offer is unfair and discriminatory. If the county wishes to draft rules regarding dogs in patio areas, it should do so. What it shouldn't do is discriminate against a single operator or impose broad bans that impact literally thousands of county dog-owning residents.

The increase in support has provided the leverage needed to request a formal meeting with the County Health Department. Legal counsel is now reviewing the current code to identify specific inconsistencies in how this mandate was applied to a single operator.

LAZY DOG IS THE ONLY PLACE I GO WITH MY DOG. DONT RUIN A GOOD THING!!!
This is ridiculous. My dog is cleaner than most people anyway. Let us bring our pets back to the patio.
If people are worried about sitting around a table of doggies, then its simple...DON'T COME TO THE RESTAURANT. Please keep this place dog friendly! Lots of people own dogs and enjoy eating with their "family".
Seems like they have bigger issues to deal with than where we eat dinner with our pups. Leave the patio as it was.
Now pending in our state Leglislature is AB 1965 which would remove any legal objections to dogs in outdoor areas. So we need to continue to urge our local health department and supervisor to intervene and reinstate Lazy Dog as a dog-friendly place.

I been goin here for years with my golden retriever and never had a problem. Why change things now? Total overreach by the county.
