Legacy Public School (Markham) - Parents Request Proactive Lice Checks
Show your support by signing this petition now
In September 2013, Legacy Public School in Markham experienced several cases of lice within the school population. The school also had a similar experience in June 2013.
Lice is easy to go unnoticed in the early stages. Like a domino effect, it is transmitted from child to child that have direct head contact. This sort of contact is quite common in young children. If your child gets lice, it will be a huge effort and cost to you to get them removed. Your child will also be more vulnerable in contacting lice again within a period of 90 days.
The Lice Policy at the school does not include any proactive measures in order to deter further spread among the students. The current coarse of action is for parents to alert the school that their child has been affected by lice and then the child is not permitted back into the school until they are deemed clear by the school principle. Teachers are on visual alert for suspected lice cases, but <<they will not do a physical checks>>. (Note: Only 10% of lice cases present themselves by having an itchy head.)
Please sign this petition if you agree that the school should:
Commission a professional service (such as Nit Wits) to screen the school population for lice. (The cost to parents would be $2 per child per visit)
Once we have the required amount of signatures, this petition will be presented to the Legacy Public School Parent Council in late September in order to mobilize these preventative measures at the school.
Thank you for your support.
