In the shadow of the bewildered attempt to introduce the extradition bill, HK has seen an unprecedented wave of violence, many from those faithful to freedom, but way much more from the oppressing brutality of the Administration and the arm twisted Police Force.

Students today will become leaders in the future, thus, the train up of students' critical thinking is very important. According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, students have the right to enjoy the freedom of speech, thoughts, association and peaceful rally. As mentioned in our school song "There we learn the why of life. There we ready for the strife. Knowledge is our goal. Knowledge of the things of earth. Knowledge of the soul.", it is believed that truth seeking and being inclusive have always been core values treasured by our school. In such sense, do you think the suppression of students' rights, such as the prohibition of strikes, the control on the design of notice boards and the cancellation of screenings of "Hong Kong Connection" held by the Anti-ELAB GHS Group during recess, is a good way to help students distinguish the truth from wrong?

Facing students' different point of views about the social movement, teachers should based on the Code for the Education Profession of Hong Kong, "discuss issues with students in an objective way", "encourage students' critical thinking and reasonable judgment", "nurture in the democratic spirit of students" and "be respectful to each other". While the pursuit of democracy represents collective challenges for the community, we would like to appeal to the school for the continued commitment to work, as well as the safeguard of the school philosophies and students' rights. While the handling of students' information sharing about the social movement have been controversial, it is highly appreciated if the school could seek ways to better communicate with students and these measures implemented would be informed.

The school has a duty to promote moral education, enhance students' social awareness and assist students in fact finding, especially during the hard times. We are all broken-hearted to see our hometown in such a chaotic state, but let's be united and hope that Hong Kong's proud tradition as one of the safest cities will be restored. As a Good Hoper, never lose hope. Never forget, one day a Good Hoper, one life a Good Hoper.

Yours Sincerely,

A group of Good Hope School Alumni
