Liberal Democrats’ Grassroots Challenge to Policy on Women’s Sex Based Rights

Party activist for many decades. Have never felt so close to walking away. It is not just the refusal to take women's rights seriously, it is the way in which the Party that should be the strongest defender of free speech and open discussion seems to have been captured by a cult which demands adherence to a quasi-religiousbelief system and condemns as evil any possible questioning of it. We desperately need courage from leaders in the Party to look at the issues with an open mind, and to speak out for science and sense - or at the very least, to condemn the attempt to silence dissenters.

Gender is a matter of choice, although a choice often discouraged by a male-dominated society, particularly for women. Sex is a fact which is observed, not assigned, at birth. Wear what you want, but a surgeon or doctor cannot change your sex, just make you more or less look like what you want to be. The dismissal of women's concerns on this issue concerning their own safety and political representation and the consequent abuse is disgusting, particularly in a so-called liberal party. The Liberal Democrats need to shape up here and decide whether they want to support women or not. So far, the answer is not, and it has been noted by those who have caught up with the abuse of women and children that is being enabled by the silence.

I cannot sign with my real name because I am afraid of sanction by the party I have given so much to. It was never very supportive of women's issues. It is now becoming the Republic of Gilead. Why any woman would join it these days is beyond me.

Silencing women on this matter is harmful and misogynistic.

I will never support any party that believes in gender self-id, it is dangerous and unfair to women.

couldn't agree more about all those statements, although it seems to me they could be considered transphobic by the Liberal Democrats leadership? (I do not think they are). Party member here, it would be nice to see the LibDems become a voice of reason on this issue.

Trans people have their human rights, to the credit of the Liberal civil liberties campaigns, amongst others. The human rights of women, children and LGB people matter too and are being trampled over or ignored. Sex and gender are different, women's sex based rights are matters of safety and justice. Women's consent is essential for changes that affect us. The Stonewall demand 'Acceptance without exception, no debate' is illiberal, as is its accompanying 'cancel culture'.

About time. Silence from the leadership is deafening. All this should have been self evident. Shame on you.

Sex is one of the 9 protected characteristics under the UK Equality Act 2010. It is astonishing that the LibDems continue so reluctant to step forward to actively support the female sex - especially when the party relies on the unacknowledged work of so many

Signed by a LibDem in spirit, though I can’t bring myself to join at the moment

I support the party on every other issue. But it is basic democracy to allow gender critical people like myself to argue for the changes in policy that flow from this document.
