It is unconscionable to sanction or allow discrimination toward LGBT students, faculty, or staff. Stop it.

Seems like such a simple request. How can anyone think it would be OK to discriminate against LGBT employees or students?
Refusing to add LGBT to the discrimination policies would be a pretty negative statement.

I support equal rights and I believe clear anti-descrimination policies should be in place.

Sexual orientation has no bearing on whether or not a teacher is qualified to teach, just like it has no bearing on whether or not a parent can love. People need to wake up and realize there are much bigger issues that children/adolescents/teens are facing in this world right now than the sexual orientation of their teachers.

As an MHS graduate (with LGBTQ classmates/fellow alums) as well as an employment law attorney and Equal Employment Opportunity specialist, I look forward to the day when there is no doubt that all students and staff are protected. Yes, some courts and the EEOC have said LGBTQ protection falls under the umbrella of gender protections, but a clear policy would put fears to rest and set an example for other districts to follow.

This morning I was sorting some old magazines, and I saw again the beautiful cover on THE NEW YORKER for July 8/15, 2013: viewed from the back, the Muppet Bert with his head resting on the shoulder of the Muppet Ernie as they sit on their sofa and watch TV images of the Supreme Court when the decision on marriage equality was announced. The cover artist Jack Hunter called his painting "Moment of Joy," and truly it is whenever the many in America offer fairness and kindness to the few. When arbitrary discrimination turns up, it should always be stricken from our workplaces. Please give our teachers this protection.

No person should face discrimination on the basis of who they are and school district policy should reflect this if they wish to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

This is a necessary change. We must value each other in our strengths and in our differences. We are stronger together. We must vigilantly protect one another from discrimination and ill will.
