LGBT Protection for MISD Employees and Students

there is no reason lgbt people should be discriminated against especially in the school system. it is unprofessional and just plain rude.

Its basic civil rights and should apply to everyone to be treated as equals and to be protected.

Children should be taught to tolerate others who are different. In order for that to happen children must meet people from all different backgrounds.

All she did was tell her students she has a wife. That is absolutely no basis to fire a teacher on, ever.

I hope Mansfield ISD comes to their senses, re-hires this teacher and implements an LGBT anti-discrimination policy soon because otherwise I can imagine having to pay a huge settlement when they lose a class action lawsuit. That doesn't help MISD or MISD students. Also, as a DISD graduate and lesbian, I can say that its disheartening to hear that gay teachers are still being fired and discriminated against for absolutely nothing at all.

As a former student of MISD and an LGBT one at that I can honestly say that the district NEEDS to pay more attention to their LGBT students. I had a teacher, and I’m not afraid to say her name here, Mrs. Schimming that told a class that she thinks transgenders are sad because god doesn’t make mistakes. I was in this class, I was a transgender student coming to terms with myself. This set me back severely because my own teacher who was suppose to be there to help me said this. Because of that statement alone i was too afraid to come out while I was in her class for fear of harassment and judgement. I brought this matter up with my counselor and nothing was done. Had she been, let’s say, an openly gay woman saying she thinks straight people are sad then I’m certain there would have been consequences. As for the real reason behind the potition, a teachers sexual orientation does not dictate how well they teach children or do their job. It has nothing to do with it and is nobody’s business but their own especially bigoted parents.

You wouldn't suspend a heterosexual employee for discussing their spouse with any of their students. The way you have behaved toward your LGBT employees is blatant discrimination.

I'm a teacher at a neighboring district. I would describe myself as conservative, but I think a teacher should be able to talk about her family, even if it looks different from mine. If a parent doesn't like it, that parent can have a conversation with his/her child to explain the parent's view.

I'm a homeowner in Mansfield and have two children in MISD and I support adding LGBT protection and protection language to the districts nondiscrimination policy.

If this isn't the most ridiculous situation I've seen today, what's the difference between her mentioning a wife as opposed to mentioning a husband? Nothing, nothing at all.

I am not a member of the lgbtq+ community but am a strong supporter. I have a family member and a several friends that are bisexual and/or transgender

As a former resident of Arlington, TX, I am saddened and ashamed to hear that LGBTQ protections do not exist for our teachers. This is not the open and friendly Arlington that I love. Please protect the civil rights of all teachers, regardless of orientation!

If we want to teach our children compassion, empathy, love, and how to embrace others despite differences, let’s also practice that ourselves as adults and educators.

Please do not let an amazing teacher, the kind of teacher who really allows for exploration of the self through art be a critical component of her curriculum, be dismissed and punished for an aspect of her life that some may not agree with, but should tolerate without hate! Teachers speak of their lives outside of work all the time, but some seem to be punished when they speak of their lives when someone else doesn't agree with it.

Sexuality will always be present in the real world, it should be taught at a young age and accepted at a young age

Sexual orientation shouldn’t have to be something we hide from the young, talking about it like it’s wrong to say or bring up just cause they are young but then go on and tell who they are going to marry someday just because they are the opposite gender

There will be LGBTQ+ students in your school. No matter how hard you try to suppress them. It's not something they can change, nor is it something that should be changed. BEING LGBTQ+ IS NOT WRONG. The future is going to be full of influencial, wonderful queer people. Accept it or get left behind in their rainbow dust. Do what all good parents do, love and accept your children for who they are. Please don't rob your children of a such positive queer role model, you never know what kid will need it <3
