I live on Cambridge road so I know and experience the congestion problems at peak times very well. Putting in a unsightly bus lane will ruin the appearance of the lovely Lexden road. I don't want a bus lane near my house thanks!!!!!!!!! Stop wasting money, whoever thought up this idea needs to be sacked quite frankly.

This will make the traffic on Lexden road WORSE at rush hour!!!!! queuing up to the roundabout is already bad enough, and now the council want to squeeze the limited space even more. These lanes are already tiny. Absolutely MORONIC.

This is an ill thought out proposal the problems on Lexden Road occur twice a day when the schools start and close. at these times the busses are stationary. putting in a bus lane will reduce the width of the pavements which already has children spilling off them at peak times.

sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, there's far too many nurseries and schools in that road to risk it

Who knows what the future will bring for Colchester - but adding an extra bus lane, narrowing pavements and putting commuting cyclists right next to masses of school children on Lexden Road doesn't seem like the way forward at the moment.
Colchester is expanding with house building in Stanway, not to feed a burgeoning job market in the town centre, but to provide housing for people commuting away from Colchester either by train of car. Let's look at ways of easing this situation before spending £millions building a major arterial road into a small town centre for a situation that doesn't currently exist.

To narrow road to have a bus lane, and we must keep the island crossing for the elderly, and encourage the cyclists with the cycle lanes. better idea would be to spend the money improving the A12 slip roads and repairing the many potholes around Colchester properly.
Kind regards Mark Clark

I regularly run on the pavement on Lexden road and especially the hill running down to st Leonard's church is already too narrow on the left side. The busses are already perilously close!

A crazy idea spend the money on pot holes. We need the islands for pedestrians to be able to cross the road safely
Especially the elderly

There are not enough buses to warrant a bus lane.Lexden Rd is not wide enough to take a bus lane. This morning I had to walk in the road below Glen Ave because of overhanging shrubbery!

Terrible idea. Do not ruin this road as you have done elsewhere, the top of the road will become a worse bottleneck than it is already. It is another way of creating fines too for those who mistakenly use them. An eyesore and a danger.

Crazy dangerous idea have the council not seen the number of children who walk this route to get to school

Total waste of money for 40 mins each day dangerous to traffic exiting driveways and pedestrians alone

I look at this from a slightly different angle, if you just look at Lexden Road, it is one of the nicer roads in the town aesthetically, nice properties, tree lined, wide safe pavements for the many school children that use them, why would anybody want to turn this into a sterile concrete, soleless, unsafe, shared space resulting in the type of infrastructure we see on the northern approaches.
Most people do not like the pavements to be non-defined between cyclists and pedestrians, incidentally if you had looked at the notices in the Gazette recently in small type, hidden away, ECC have plans for more shared space in other areas of the town. This notice is what they call 'consultation'.

Not wanted, not needed, in fact it's a dangerous idea. Cyclists on busy pavements with children on their way to the five schools in the area and pedestrians on their way to the town centre is asking for trouble. Spend our money on fixing the potholes or something else worthwhile like the NHS!
Ridiculous idea and total waste of money!!
