Ive been a loyal liberal voter since day one, but after the knee jerk shark cull rubbish in wa and now this you have lost my support. You dont make policy to fix issues you do what you have to make you look good in the papers.

Mr Abbott, I am very disappointed by the response to this "issue". This is a knee jerk reaction to a vocal anti-gun obsessed minority, journalist hacks and "greens" pushing their totalitarian agenda. The liberal party is supposed to be the party of "freedoms" not the tool of those who want to slowly strip away the freedoms we have remaining. Mr Abbott act like a leader, make a decision based on facts and evidence, not emotion and opinion polls.

What a disgusting display from a poor government. Taking the easy option again.

Law Abiding Firearm Owners who have qualified for a gun licence should not be vilified and targeted for the crimes of terrorists and other law breakers! Government should not take the easy route by introducing more draconian laws that do NOT affect criminals, but only take away freedoms and hobbies away from honest law abiding people.

Sick of the vilification of law abiding firearms owners every time gun violence occurs in this country. Criminals and illegal firearms are the problem.

Lever actions have been around 100+ years- farmers and hunters have relied not only on it but all guns for decades.

As a law abiding Firearm owner, and ex serviceman, I find these actions by the government to be totally unaaceptable. There is no evidence, and no figures to support any further restrictions of licenced shooters. We as a whole, supported the mandatory minimum sentence laws regarding firearm related crime, as reasonable, sensible firearm owners. We have complied with all of the laws, rules and regulations, even though they are massively inconsistent, and uneducated. To impose further regulations, with no crime data, and no consultation is a dictator like action, and shows complete contempt for 800,000 legal firearm owners, who contribute in excess of an estimated $50,000,000 annually in fees and licensing, before our positive financial impact on government funded pest iradication programs.

This is ludicrous the government in plan once again to take away our civil rights. There is enough evidence online from the 1996 Martin Bryant mass shooting to confirm a cover up and false flag if you call it by howard in order to remove our semi autos from society! Now because a new type of lever shotgun a bunch of greenies and pollies want to ban the rest of our guns! Not something I agree on! Society is that frightened the moment you mention a firearm or anything that looks like a military firearm, kids can't even buy an Airsoft toy here in Australia because of the look of it. The problem isn't legal guns of LAFO the problem is illegal guns and criminals who import them illegally or steal them. These people are already outside of the law and will go to whatever length to stand over or harm someone even if that includes having to make a home weapon. Lever actions are one of the slowest Actions around & have been well known to jam. The shooter has to take his hand away from the trigger each time they cycle the lever & take the time to aim at the target. You may as well just ban all bolt actions as well at this rate, anyone who is an adept shooter can shoot a bolt action centre fire rifle just as quick as a lever and have a long range for the killshot. Now because of a shotgun mainly going to be used by sporting shooters and farmers with an effective range of 50 yards you want to ban all lever actions and review all firearm classes. This is madness! Your talking about revoking rights of legally licensed shooters who do the right thing! They should be focusing on criminals and tougher laws for importing, manufacturing & theft of firearms with mandatory 10yr jail terms for illegal firearms trafficking. Wake up Australia, Wake up Abbot! Australians aren't that easy to fool these days, Howard might have got away with the Government organised Martin Bryant Mass Shooting in order to remove our Semi Autos but we won't happen again!

More people have been killed in air line travel and there is one flight still missing but bid you ban the air craft , 100 of fat people die for over eating but do you ban the fork and taken all the drugs of the streets has removed the world drug problem but you still want to sacrifice the legal fire arm owner Pull your head in and wake up to the real world

Really?? How about targeting the criminals getting Glocks through the postal system, not genuine Australians with a 1894 lever action!

Instead of attacking law abiding citizens with even more regulation, how about enforcing existing laws properly and targeting real criminals.
