Why am I being punished for criminals committing crimes with firearms. I egage in shoting feral animals and the restriction against me owning a pump action means the ferals get a free pas to survive because we have lost the ability to destroy mobs of pigs or goats etc. Whilst the criminals can get what ever they desire illegally, after all they do not comply with the law as we all do.

I support this petition 100% It's about time the government stopped punishing the masses for the crimes of a few.

As a law abiding member of society who happens to enjoy the sport of shooting i find your stance on this matter completely disgusting. The facts and statistics do not lie, licensed firearms are not the issue within Australia nor are those of us that use them. The root issue lies with the poor funding of Australian Customs and their inability to conduct a meaningful number of extensive searches of cargo and packages entering the country coupled with the lenient sentencing of individuals involved with the trafficking of illegal firearms. Laws don't stop those who aren't afraid of being caught.

To make rash, kneejerk reactions on the basis of fear instead of logic is not a trait of a leader. Firearms have been a part of our nation since its founding, in fact most of our most sacred histories revolve around our young men using firearms. Our ANZACs did not become mass murderers on their return from numerous wars, although they had the skills and mental trauma to have done so. Our modern, licensed shooters are no more risk to society today than they were 100 years ago. We are blamed every time an unlicensed person uses an illegal firearm, we are made out in the media to be 'nuts' or 'psychos' or 'rednecks'. Society are free to treat us in ways that would be seen as shameful if done to any other group, and any hint of defending ourselves is seen as 'proof' we are nuts. In spite of that, we are still law abiding, we have never gone on a rampage on those who slander us, and we continue to uphold society in our professions as farmers, lawyers, police officers, teachers, technicians, scientists, doctors to name just a few. Look beyond your fear, look at the facts, understand we have never been a problem, and then you may be able to focus on the actual issues, and arrive at sensible solutions.

There are enough restrictions on us now with the firearms. How about screening the license holders instead. Fed up with being associated as a criminal.

Hysterical knee jerk reactions are all well and good. But when you're screaming bloody murder to nothing happening I start to think you are just doing it for attention.

No interest in getting a lever action but there is absolutely no way I will ever support any bans and even though I am a conservative I will not be supporting the Lib/Nats Susan Ley you have lost my vote.

I think it's about time the leaders of this country learnt how to lead instead of reacting to criminals by punishing the law abiding citizens

I agree with the semi automatic legislation, though this is going a little too far
