Dear President Stanley,
The Trump administration has made clear with its racist and unconstitutional Immigration Ban, that refugees, immigrants, and people of color are now under attack. As the thrice attempted deportation of GSO President Vahideh Rasekhi demonstrates, SBU community members are not immune to this attack. Now is the time for plain speech and decisive action.
What will the SBU administration do in the face of these dangers? Will you offer a pointed and complete repudiation of this organized bigotry at tomorrow's campus March for Unity? We do not need ambiguous statements in support of diversity. It is not enough to protect students only "in line with federal and state law" if the federal government continues to legalize discrimination. Will you or will you not openly condemn the immigration ban?
Further, what new concrete steps will you, as President of Stony Brook University, take to ensure that all immigrants are protected on this campus from the dangers of our current administration? Will you declare SBU a sanctuary campus? Will you devote additional university resources to the assistance and protection of refugees and the undocumented? Will you practice deliberate noncompliance with federal immigration enforcement?
These questions are pressing, and your answers should not evade the issue or the specifics of your concrete actions against it. Please reply with your full and detailed response in a manner that is consistent with the urgency of the situation. The time for making responses that appeal to state or corporate sponsors is over. We must act on behalf of the most vulnerable members of our community, and we must act now.

Seeing one hundred people put their names behind this demand for Vahideh and all our peers feels incredible. I know how much is at stake for our community, and this momentum gives me real hope that President Stanley cannot ignore us for much longer.

Seeing the count climb toward 250 signatures feels like we are finally forcing the administration to look at us. If we hit this number before the march tomorrow it shows President Stanley that he cannot ignore the fear Vahideh and so many others are living with right now.

The beauty of Stony Brook is the way it brings people from all different cultures and backgrounds together to share knowledge. This is something that makes me proud to be a Stony Brook alumni. Please take a stand to protect all members of the Seawolf community, regardless of what the government may say!
As a Stonybrook alumni (73, 85) I believe it is the duty of the university to be loudly outspoken in its opposition to Trump's xenophobic executive order. A quick and strong statement from your office to the White House is necessary to counter the inhumane and delusional behavior of Trump.
Students at SBU must have unambiguous assurance that they are safe and can study without being preoccupied by fear of immigration procedures and practices of this current administration.
"in accordance with federal law" is not enough. When the arbiters of federal law create unjust laws, they are not to be followed. Condemn now!
President Stanley, Asphalt pavement doesn't make our university a higher ranked place, your Grad student will, whom 80% are international student!

This ban has hurt the heart of students and friends at SBU. It is also strangely not against the countries where trump does business, therefore the ban is not created as a safety measure, but to target innocent people and therefore rally around hate. Being silent is being part of the problem. If some hurt, we all hurt.
