Letter to Shambhala Transition Team

Yes, it is sad that Reginald Ray has left to give one example.

This is a wonderful petition,however you are just preaching to the choir ,We need A Shambhala subjects Transition Team, perhaps to work with the team assembled by SMR,this could expand the Shambhala vision,including every one,both expats ,and in pats,SMR has always said "it's my way or the highway"now we could expand and say "we are the highway" think about this We are Shambhala,lets move forward together.I would like to nominate Dr Reginald Ray to the transition Team also Bakes Mitchell, Who would you like to nominate?

I signed this petition because I wish that the divisions in our sangha be healed, but a petition alone will do nothing. Resentment toward the Sakyong and hurt feelings should be put aside and the root causes of the schism addressed. Even the Vidyadhara struggled with this: Remember the days of separate shrines and separate buildings? Conceptually, I have some ideas about how to reconcile, but ultimately nothing positive happens unless we repair our vows with respect to Shambhala and Buddhism. Simply conflating the two will get us nowhere.

We must rekindle the beautiful buddhist teachings that compliment the Shambhala terms - together they were miraculous and transformative. Our community needs them both!

The reinstatement of Larry and Judy into positions where they can influence the future is a must. Heal the schism resulting from the current Sakyong's effective disenfranchisement of the Kagyu practices along with senior students of CTR 'respected leaders who have maintained their ties and devotion to the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages'.

Hello my kamikaze friends. It looks like we are taking bombs to our heritage of wakefulness--maybe overcompensating for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Recently the works of Chogyam Trungpa Roshi were given to me in the Japanese language. I found them to be profound and in keeping with the noble traditions of the Shingon, Tendai, and Zen schools of Buddhism, but with the added zest of the higher tantras. We are so blessed to have his clear insights. It seems that the new "Shambhala Buddhism" is shinshukyo in the Japanese way of thinking. This means "new religion" removed from it's lineage roots. From reading Trungpa Roshi, I don't see that he wanted a shinshukyo but was a powerful messenger of the profound mahamdura and maha ati lineages that have existed for in India and Tibet since ancient times. It is my hope to come to the holy centers of Trungpa Roshi in Colorado and Nova Scotia to meet others who are moved to enlightenment reality rather than just interested in so called "dharma politics." I am someone who dearly loves the Shambhala teachings. I think that without them, I would not have been able to relate to the traditional Buddhist teachings at all. They somehow helped bridge the gap between my Christian cultural background and the very different views presented in Buddhism. I can see how it could be helpful to "translate" more of the traditional teachings in this way. (I have not attended any Scorpion Seal assemblies, but am wondering if that is what they attempt to do.) What I do not understand is, however, why one would turn away those who love and connect with the traditional teachings and who are for some reason not drawn to the Shambhala teachings. So many of the teachers who inspired me have left. You can't just tell people "Drop what you are doing and join our new way!". That's like saying "Stop listening to Bach, come listen to Michael Jackson!". What happened seems very unskilful and unkind to me. I hope that this petition can communicate the need for this to be addressed.

I have missed Judy Lief, Dorje Loppon, Larry Mermelstein, so much backbone and humor in dharma, wisdom and experience. Their teachings and stories are part of our treasure in dharma. Bring them back, please.

Agree with the proposal. I wish it had been presented 20+ years ago when the Sakyong "announced" Shambhala Buddhism at a Kalapa Assembly 20+ years ago.

Agree wholeheartedly with this proposal - Many sangha members were lost when it was clear that only Shambhala teachings were being offered. Most found new teachers in either the Nyingma or Kagyu lineages; I'm guessing many wished that they could have stayed but found the conditions around the teachings too restrictive.

This would restore what I thought I had joined to begin with, a gentle welcoming network of Buddhist meditation centres which was respectful and open to lineage teachings going back eons. That Kagyu and Nyingma connection told me I was on the right path, a pure path. It was my guiding light. I knew I could trust it. Did I mention Buddhist? Yes that matters too. A lot.

As a Vajrayogini practitioner, I long for the Vajrayana teachings of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages. The recent Development and Completion Stage online course taught by the Dorje Loppon was extremely helpful and so heartening that this wisdom is still being transmitted within our Shambhala lineage.
