With the possibility of the Green Party holding the balance of power, this should be good time to get their attention.

On average, in the past few years that we have witnessed poor wood utilization from logging activities, 20,000 slash piles are burned annually in the Bulkley Valley - Lakes District Air Shed. Since when do we consider our air sheds as free dumping grounds for industrial activities?

My daughter has developed asthma and I wonder if the poor air quality was the cause. This is distressing to me and I believe that changes such as scrubbers on Newpro are mandatory. Please help us be healthy. Thank you, Lori

Air quality is an essential determinant of health. In the case of the Bulkley Valley, it is a health hazard.

Our airshed is so compromised here in the Bulkley Valley that it is clear that we need to address any kind of industrial and other burning with aggressive restrictive laws. Start now to find other ways to deal with unwanted debris and perceived needs for burning.
With deforestation occurring throughout the world ( despite replanting efforts), and acidification of oceans to alarming degrees, oxygen is not being replenished at the same time that burning is creating carbon in our atmosphere. This will not support life and at some point even the most untrained and uneducated among us will "get" it. Too late. Get on the wagon, you who are in positions of power and act now!

Our air quality in the Bulkley Valley is affected by slash-burning in other forest districts as well as in our own. Once airborne, smoke can travel for hundreds of kilometres (which is why we occasionally have smoke in our air originating from wildfires in Siberia, northwestern US, and southeastern BC. I travel throughout Northwest BC for work, and can see that large masses of smokey air are sometimes moving from the interior toward the coast. passing over and settling in our valleys and communities along the way.
Thank you.

Slash burning is creating many health problems in the Bulkley Valley, and it is affecting the health of the seniors and young people especially.

Yes, and not only industrial sources, but large 'backyard' grass and debris burning as well. Clean Air Now please!
