Letter to Province of BC on OBSCR Amendments
On November 25, 2016, the Mayor and Council of the Town of Smithers wrote to the Minister of the Environment (https://can-bv.ca/2017/05/05/smithers-council-open...), Ms. Mary Polak on behalf of the public to express concerns about air quality in the Bulkley Valley and, in particular about proposed amendments to regulations that will weaken the restrictions on slash burning that affects our air.
I am a resident of the Bulkley Valley. I share the concern many other members of the general public have about poor air.
I would like to add my voice to theirs in urging the Ministers to address our bad air crisis by amending the Wildfire Act, the Wildfire Regulation, the Environmental Management Act, and the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation to make sure that burning of slash from industrial logging operations does not pollute our air.
