Dear President Obama,

It is of great urgency that we write to you in demand that the United States stops funding Israeli weaponry. Israeli attacks on UN schools is not a step too far but one of a plenty steps taken below morality.

No, as Malaysians living and studying here in the US, we refuse to accept that the United States, a nation that preaches democracy, diplomacy and international human rights, can wholeheartedly support the UN member that ranks top in international law violations; Israel.

We grew up reading about an America that stands for human rights, that values equal opportunity for all, an America that pursues to provide "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" no matter what the ethnic, no matter what color. It seems puzzling therefore that the US government would go ahead and financially support a nation that forces contraceptive injections to African immigrants, a nation that has a record of killing Palestinian (and American) peace activists. Let us remember Rachel Corrie and the ideals that she died for. Let us remember the 1000+ Palestinian civilians who have died simply for doing what we do daily; living in our homes.

There is still time to stand for what is right. There is still time to stand against the Israeli lobby, forgo monetary lures and dive into humane reasoning. Stop the funding of Israeli weapons.
