Letter to OAUSD (*Scroll down for Spanish translation* en español abajo*)

Enough with the copy paste emails. We are tired of the guessing game every time a case pops up. My kids deserve consistent school days and we deserve to know what the policy actually is.

We understand administrators and teachers are stretched thin under this unprecedented circumstance. However, more needs to be done to hire support personnel to follow up with protocols and establish more comprehensive guidelines to limit unnecessary lengthy quarantine.

Just as every effort is being made to keep our children safe, every effort must be made to keep them safe and to keep them in school. It's gotten too easy to just send them home. That is not the answer anymore. As educators, you need to find solutions that will minimize removal from the classroom while still keeping them safe.

Establish a plan and follow it. If the "authorities" cannot do this simple task, then get new leaders.

Get it together, OAUSD. All those generic responses for a almost a year and half about how the district is coming up with plans and safety measures and this is the best you all can come up with??? What a joke. Do your jobs properly and stop making our children suffer.

Not fair

Transparency, clear guidelines to keep children, teachers and families safe should be in place already. No room for error here. Hopefully all of the confusing issues will be solved immediately. Please keep our children- grandchildren safe and allow them to learn. They deserve better than what is now going on! Thank you for your immediate attention to this.

I support this. At our school all of Kindergarten and TK classes were shut down due to one covid case because the children shared a same recess time. We were told about the exposure on 9/7/2021 from an exposure that had occurred the week earlier, with our quarantines starting 9/8 and that we could in fact start testing our children 9/7 at different community testing sites. There was a district testing event scheduled for 9/8, but the SoMo quarantine students (who were eligible to be tested on 9/7) were not invited to the 9/8 testing event—only the Loma Vista and La Tercera Quarantine students were invited. I called multiple people and no one seemed to have information or reasoning of why the SoMo children were not given the same opportunities to be tested as the other District Quarantine children. The lack of communication, transparency, and leadership coming from District management needs to be addressed.

I absolutely agree with this. At our school the entire 4th-6th grade classes were quarantined all week due to an identified 'positive' case in which the kids were all at recess unmasked. This quarantine did not seem rational, as siblings of all the 4th-6th graders were still allowed to attend school yet the 4-6th graders were required to test and show proof of testing before returning to school on Thursday and if the results are not in by Monday then Monday the remaining kids may come back to school.. This created disruption to learning, parents, families, and our children. They immediately resorted to school via zoom for all of 4-6 grades yet siblings were allowed to continue to go to school. We are still unclear as to the exact number of cases or if it was a student or teacher. As a parent I am frustrated that this is the 4th week of school and we are dealing with distance learning on top of masking our children all day and now required to make them eat lunch 6 feet apart. This seems like an awful lot to explain to a 1st, 3rd and 4th grader. Constantly changing policies and confusion around policies and how to execute in order to maintain safety, direct communication and openness with parents are lacking and something needs to be done to ensure our kids emotional, mental and educational needs. This directly effects our children and their perception of school and comfortability , it effects the stability and education they should be getting.

En Espanol: Estimados Miembros de La Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Old Adobe, Somos un grupo activo de padres con niños en su Distrito que estamos preocupados y queremos hablar en nombre de los miembros más vulnerables del Distrito – los niños. Deseamos referirnos a las medidas recientemente tomadas con respecto a COVID-19 en nuestras escuelas. Obviamente, la prioridad de todos es la de mantener a las familias a salvo. Esto no es una cuestión política o partidista. No nos oponemos a las medidas necesarias para mitigar la propagación de la enfermedad, pero lo que no nos parece tolerable es la mala o falta de comunicación por parte de las directivas. Ha habido poca o nada de transparencia por parte de nuestros dirigentes en las escuelas y aún así, cada decisión que se hace de forma directa afecta a nuestras familias. Esas decisiones y los mensajes enviados acerca de las mismas son confusos y algunas veces ilógicos.
