We the community request our leaders from both the Village & School District to publicly denounce the actions of the individuals in our community that were part of the racist video.
We the community request our leaders to publicly develop strategies and present an action plan to address racist and discriminatory incidents when they occur in our community.
We the community request our leaders to provide opportunities for community members to educate the community on racial issues and other forms of cultural education.
We the community request our leaders to publicly support all people who live in our School District, no matter of race, ethnicity, sex, age, nationality, disability, mental illness or ability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, sex characteristics, religion, creed, or individual political opinions.
We the community request our leaders to create spaces within the community that reflects other cultures as well as our own.
We the community request our leaders to create public forums/meetings for community members to express concerns about discrimination and inequity issues including, but not limited to, race, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, sex characteristics, and disability.
We the community publicly pledge that we too will do what we can to make Waunakee, Westport, Dane, Springfield, and Vienna places where all people are welcomed and discrimination is never tolerated.

My own biracial children were subjected to racist remarks while attending school in Waunakee. I am in complete support.
I believe our youth needs to be educated on the N word .... We need to get uncomfortable with discussing the use of this word. It is not okay to use or say! and the rap music today has over used this word - to the point of glorifying it -to the point it has become desensitized by much of our youth. EDUCATION IS ESSENTIAL!!!!

I spent many of my formative years growing up in Waunakee and my extended family spent decades as part of this community. Growing up in Waunakee, my cousin was treated poorly by those in the Village who found his biracial background inferior. Leadership must represent the change that is needed and take a public stand against all forms of prejudice and bigotry.
We expect our leaders to go beyond say they "don't condone" hateful behaviors, and to be actively anti-hate and anti-racist.

I agree that we need to do a better job of educating our children in order to reduce racism.
