The Town of Hempstead finally folded and approved our playground plans. After eleven years of stalling they realized we were not going away. Stay ready because we need to hold them accountable until the first shovel hits the dirt.

Our goal is to build the first all ages and abilities playground on the Wynsum Ave / Hewlett Ave peninsula of South Merrick, NY.

The project was started due to frustration to us and the wider community at the lack of effective quality play areas in the Wynsum Ave / Hewlett Ave peninsula of South Merrick, NY. Through discussions with various people we have heard that over the last 11 years that the community and individuals have requested a playground in this area.

As a community member we have taken action to research , consult and engage with the people in the area. We have spoken to members of the community to gauge interest in the playground build and have been met with overwhelming support.

Our vision is for a playground for life. A playground where regardless of your age or ability there will always be something fun to play on. Let’s play together on this project and make it happen.

We, the undersigned, call on the Town of Hempstead Board to support and approve the proposed plan to build the all-ages and all-abilities playground in the abovementioned lot in the Wynsum Ave / Hewlett Ave peninsula of South Merrick, NY .

The Town of Hempstead Board continues to ignore the decade of requests for a playground on the Wynsum Ave peninsula while our kids have nowhere to go. Their silence is insulting but it only proves that they serve their own interests instead of this community. We are not backing down until they finally approve this build.

I live right across from this parcel and think it's a wonderful idea! A playground for our children on the Hewlett peninsula is long overdue!

It's time for this section of Merrick to have a playground. Why should we have to drive to Bellmore or Julian Lane to take children to a playground???

A playground is greatly lacking - it's important for a neighborhood to have a playground within walking distance.

I have lived in Merrick for 50 years grew up on Donna drive. It's time to make that empty land into a playground. My grandchildren can play theater how wonderful would that be!!!

This area is and always has been NEVER used for anything!!!! No one Is ever there. It is currently a complete waste of valuable space that could be used in the same way as the Julian Lane park is used; as a playground for children with their families.
