Sweatshops oftentimes have poor working conditions, unfair wages, unreasonable hours, child labor, and lack of benefits for workers.

Alta Gracia is the first apparel factory in the development world to pay their workers living wages and respect their workers' rights. These "living wages" are 3 times more than the minimum wage in the Dominican Republic. Alta Gracia pays workers up to $500 (10 times what a worker will earn in other sweatshops). With this money, the workers are able to put a roof over their heads, support their families financially and help pay for medical supplies. Alta Gracia also offers a pension plan, health care and other benefits. Sexual harassment happens frequently at normal sweatshops in the Dominican Republic, but not at Alta Gracia.

Alta Gracia is trying to make a difference in the world and become a role model for other sweatshops in the world. Alta Gracia has been around for 4 years and hopefully it can continue for even longer.

By signing this petition, we are asking you to try to incorporate Alta Gracia into your life, club, business, or fundraiser. We also ask that you support Alta Gracia by wearing their products because that will make a huge impact in expanding the Alta Gracia brand but more importantly, the Alta Gracia business model that honors and respects the dignity of the human being.

We also ask that you watch the video we have created and share with some of your friends and family so that we can try to extend Alta Gracia and their model to as many people as possible. Sharing it with someone can make a huge impact on the lives of workers who are being mistreated.

Thank you!
