The global volume of food wastage is estimated at 1.6 billion tonnes of "primary product equivalents." Food waste in Canada is costing approx. $31 billion a year!
We are accustomed to throwing away all the food we don't eat, but when food ends up in the landfill and as it decomposes it releases methane. “Methane is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide in terms of its global warming potential. Emissions from Canadian landfills account for 20 per cent of national methane emissions.” explained by Environment Canada.
Where close to 900,000 Canadians are assisted by a food bank and close to 37 per cent of those are children and youth not much is being done to help.
Therefore, we call upon the Government of Canada to:
- Find solutions to food waste through a national awareness campaign
- Donate healthy and safe unsold food products to community organizations and food banks
- Decrease the environmental impact of producing food that is not consumed by encouraging more environment friendly food production methods.

Not only are we wasting food but we are wasting money. More than a third of your groceries end up in the garbage and that’s about 50 dollars wasted every week.
WE WASTE TOO MUCH!!! NOE LETS CHANGE THAT!!!

Its honestly shameful how much grocery stores just toss out when people are going hungry. Really hope they listen and start donating that stuff instead of letting it rot.
