Let's Move Helicopters Out of Our Homes
Families from Hilo to HPP,Hawaiian Beaches,Nanawale, Leilani, Pahoa, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres ie Puna, have no rights to a quiet home. Helicopter tourism has mushroomed, but regulations are non-existent. We circle between the FAA, the HDOT, the HDOH, Civil Defense, & the aircraft noise hotline going around and around but going nowhere. We don't want to kill tourism; we want it moved out of our neighborhoods. We are asking for a rare win for residents when facing business interests with no protection under law. We have asked the industry for voluntary mitigation, but have been ignored. Helicopters circling homes and neighborhoods 13-14 hours per day at 85dB has only increased. There are alternatives. Families should not have to live with the burden of high decibel continuous daily noise. We don't want to shut down tourism; we want it to respect our rights. Tell legislators the constant whine, clatter and roar of hundreds of flights overhead, making our homes unlivable, needs legislative fixing. Remind them elections are right around the corner. If existing regulations won't protect us, then we need change. Let's give residents the right to peace. There are thousands of us. Be heard. Our neighborhoods are being sold and we have no recourse. It's wrong.
