Let's Keep 12 story buildings out of Rainier Valley!

The Valley area needs more businesses but also neighborhoods that can support the businesses not more low income apartments that unfortunately bring more crime and need for more police and security. You cannot beautify an area with more high rise buildings. please save the neighborhoods and say NO to high rises of any kind.

Need Jobs not High Rise Apt Buildings

Traffic and crime is terrible here- there was a shooting yesterday at a gas station across the street from the giant blank windowless Lowe's wall. The upzone would allow habitable buildings to be built here, complement efforts to moderate the car traffic, add positive activity and commerce at the street level, and make other business possibilities that will create many more jobs than a handful of warehouse workers or gas station attendants. The rezone opponents have no other plan to improve things because they want no change from the current unbearable situation, and only want a high speed highway on-ramp to exist here so they can drive past it as quickly as possible, and to literally keep the residents of Rainier Valley down. this area is horrendous for traffic with current development. Please do not move forward with large increases in population in this area.

Japhet, I am a big fan of better housing, more jobs, stronger economic foundation in and the terrific ethnic/socio-economic diversity of SE Seattle. Increasing density is good but it does not have anything to do with the proposed change to this area - when it was proposed, the discussion including very expensive housing for units with views of downtown peppered with a few less expensive units. Maybe having expensive housing in the valley (not just along the lake) will bring something but not family wage jobs and support for small businesses - at least not existing ones. High density can still force out small business and lower income people. Look at other large cities...anything 'close-in' to any city core has 'up-scaled' old inventory. Portland, a city with values of sustainability and economic justice, had the NW area with old warehouses affordable low density properties, even 15 years ago. They now have the Pearl District and the area between there and NW 23...easy, mass transit to the city core...and 12-story condos w/ 1 bed/1 bath condos for $1900/mo. or $600K, Whole Foods and small, expensive small businesses and restaurants. Look at Harlem - it used to just be called gentrification...now it's just high density, re-zoning...it is still 'movin' on up' and forcing others out. Don't make the mistake of equating high density with moderately priced, family housing (like Othello Station - 1b/1b $11-1400)...especially closer to downtown with the bow-tie and angled, on-street parking to calm traffic.

Please do not allow this height increase with a zone change. It is completely in appropriate for the neighborhood. It will continue to attract the wrong elements to the neighborhood.

Use the money to reduce crime and graffiti. The neighborhood looks like a slum.

We do not need something that huge in Rainier Valley. Lowe's is practically the only store in the valley where you can buy home improvement supplies. It has been there since Sick's Stadium left and turned into Eagles Hardware. I am against the rezoning.

Moving Lowe's out of Rainier Valley would increase traffic as residents would have to drive a lot farther to get our hardware, lumber, and garden supplies.

I oppose any residential purpose zoning, up zones at the Lowes location. The reason being Lowes is the major supplier to the entire Rainier Valley that supports the needs of not only new construction, but includes older home repairs, existing multifamily housing and businesses. Think about how much further we will have to go outside the Valley to find this kind of similar service. If Lowes is lost, this will strip the Valley of a service that it needs to survive. The upzones are a serious mistake!

No to a 12 Story Building. Put it in U Village.
