I had a run in with this officer about two weeks ago surfing on the northend. He asked for my id and being in boardshorts I had no wallet let alone id. He told me to give him my info to call in. I ask the officer simple if I had the right to refuse providing info. Immediately he put his hands on his handcuffs and said we can figure it out downtown. Jumping to an assumption. The point is I'm no criminal and there is no reason to treat surfers that way.

I think he should surf for a month, not a week. Teach him the science behind it, so he knows that there isn't simply good days to surf. Also, Introduce him to many successful individuals who surf. I personally know a successful realtor, contractor, orthodontist, restaurant owner, and physical therapist who surf.

Most officers I encountered growing up surfing in NJ year round were the true locals and all surfed.

I live in Richmond and come to va beach to surf with friends. That is the only reason I come. The city (and it's representatives) should appreciate the things that keep it relevant.
