Elliott Smith was one of the most influential artists of the 90's and 00's. His impact on fans and artists alike is undeniable. His music will forever hold a special place in many hearts, and it should be the goal of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to recognize his contributions and to do all that is possible to ensure future generations will be able to enjoy Elliott's incredible work.

No one deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than Elliott Smith. He wrote about 300 songs (nobody's sure as to the exact amount). That's a lifetime achievement, and he died at only 34. He thought like a poet, and his use of metaphor is one of the ways he made his lyrics complex and personal. He matched those lyrics to some of the most beautiful melodies in the past century. His versatility as a musician and inventiveness at home recording also serve to make him unique. Although he may not be eligible until 2019, petitions like this one could lift him out of obscurity by that time.
