Elliott masterfully blended highly sophisticated pop sensibilities with brilliant lyrical Impressionism and cathartic angst. He was also an extremely talented guitarist with a unique strum-picking method that emphasized his melodic genius. His music defined indie rock and indie folk in its wake. His life was a rare gift to the music community that ended too soon, and it deserves to be honored.

To anyone who wants to listen and has a brain, I grew up with the Beatles, got to see them at the Baltimore Civic Center in the mid 60s. So I hold the Beatles in high esteem and I put Elliott Smith right next to them. Those two. The Beatles and Elliott Smith. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Elliott Smith was a lyrical and musical genius. The emotional intensity of his work is unsurpassed. Like many artists of his prodigious talent, he left us too soon. However, we can take some solace in enjoying and respecting his vast catalog of brilliant music.
