I learned French at school and despite never having been to France or meeting a French person, still remember some basic words and phrases, 20 years later. I have however met a few deaf people in various social situations even knowing a few basic signs would have helped at that time. I now sign to level 2 at my own choice - one of the best decisions I ever made!

Everyone should at least know the basics in sign language. I took it upon myself to learn and thorough enjoyed it. It will help take away people's ignorance.
