Bloomington City Council wants to enforce a terribly inept ordinance that restricts private Shuttle/Part Busses business owners. The ordinance state that"Vehicle for Hire licensing is only permitted by the City for vehicles transporting persons between the downtown areas of Bloomington and Normal. They cannot iniate pickups in any other parts of the city. The ordinance does not allow Vehicles for Hire to pick up passengers outside of Bloomington and VNormal Downtown business districts. Persons driving Vehicles for Hire that are not adhering to the ordinance if caught will be issued ordinance violations and possible suspension of their V ehicle for Hire license." This does not apply to Taxi Cab Companies:Checker, Red Top, Circle City. This ordinance contradicts and hinders basic need in our community. Fast, Safe, Reliable transportation. Liberty to operate our businesses without duress and harrassment as well as heinous disruption by our own elected government. Let the people decide what they want. The very consumers themselves have levelled no complaints about how the effectivness of the Vehicle for Hire vehicles being allowed to initiate pickups anywhere would be anything but a boon for the consumers. The competitiveness drives down prices and increases the qualty of the services offered to the consumers.
