We're soon going to uni, and in university we're responsible for what we eat whether it be junk food or healthy food. I whole heartedly believe than by banning such a 'privilege' you're restricting us from being independent students. We should be able to decide what we eat, if what we eat is unhealthy we bare the consequences. And when we study abroad where we have no supervision whatsoever, Who's going to tell us what to and what not to eat?

As a former senior delegate, I am shocked and appalled that the school administration has made such a brash and inconsiderate decision whilst completely negligent of the sentiments of the student body. Not only does this knee-jerk blanket ban further play into the stereotype that many students at Patana are coddled, pampered and privileged to the point where they are oblivious to the harsh realities of the outside world, but it is blatant infantilization of senior students who, in my personal opinion, should be given sufficient autonomy in what they do as young adults. I find it glaringly hypocritical that the school put such measures in place while simultaneously purporting to develop "future leaders" or responsible young "global citizens" ready to take on the world. Give me a break! Furthermore, I will not expound on the argument that many students seem to be proposing (that the canteen is losing money) as I presume that issue is multifaceted and a student's choosing to reject canteen food does not necessarily equate to a loss of money (due to the combination of students that have already paid for a term's worth of meal swipes and buy lunch on a day-to-day basis). However, one point that I am willing to pick up on is the notion that delivery disrupts reception and security staff. This is frankly bogus. The employees of the delivery services that deliver the food either sit idly in reception waiting for their patron to pick up their food (thus not interacting with the receptionists), or hand the food over the gate, which in no way shape or form makes guards less unaware of potential threats or unauthorized entry. Moreover, it is completely within the purview of reception to RECEIVE such individuals; they are not posing a security threat, nor are they, as stated previously, disrupting administrative work in any way. One of the numerous arguments made by the school to justify their total ban on food ordering was that it disrupts reception. That was when I thought to myself "what is the point of a having a reception?". It is the area in a hotel, office, or other establishment where guests and visitors are greeted and dealt with. From my own experience the delivery men rarely ever go through the reception, opting to hand over the delivery over the gate instead which is why I thought this argument is completely irrelevant. Moreover, if by some chance the delivery men go through the reception is it not the reception teams' job to greet them and let them through? If they cannot handle what is their job description I suggest that they should step down.

Can Patana focus on actually making the school better instead of making student life even more miserable than it already is pls thx

Not all food ordered is unhealthy. A blanket ban like this seems unfair. It also doesn’t seem very fair that senior students will no longer be allowed to order food into school whilst the teachers still can.

You know what we could do? (And I do this with my personal Food Panda orders to my home) Students could specifically add in the “request” box of their orders: “no fork, no spoon, no knife, no napkins, no extra sauce, no straw, no plastic bag(s)” if they aren’t necessary, and just bring their own utensils. This shouldn’t have been a straight-up ban without our say - there could have at least been some kind of discussion. We aren’t little kids.

The choice of food at patana is not good enough so the school can not suddenly prohibit orders frim outside, especialy to senior students

It doesn't make any sence. And ordering food isn't wasteful. Making too much food in the canteen is.

Many of the orders are made by teachers themselves, does this ban apply to them as well?

I've never ordered food from out of school but I don't see a problem with it at all

1. The question on nutritional value and what we put into our bodies - the canteen provides us with lunch which incorporates a so called 'balanced meal' but in reality students pick the food they they want anyway like when they serve mac and cheese or lasagna the students will deliberately pick the foods they enjoy. An assumption of students ordering food that are regarded ‘unhealthy’ is not something that is necessarily true, the school is just basing this on some of the occasions that students decide to order junk food - how is the school able to know whether the student has in fact been eating healthy all week and decided to order just to treat themselves? It is still our choice in what we choose to eat and use to fuel our body. The fact that the school is limiting our choice in food consumption makes me think whether the school is trying to encourage us to spend money on the school food instead which is also incredibly over priced for the amount each individual can consume - not to mention the price has increased over time but the amount we receive is still the same; in fact we are actually receiving less food due to recent policy of incorporating less meat. 2. We are responsible for the waste that is created, us ordering food actually in fact limits the waste created as a whole. We always discuss the effects that plastic has on our environment however the food that is packaged to the snack bar still comes in with plastic and then this is interchanged with the use of paper to ‘reduce our wastage’ - this is not how to address the problem, it is just a way in making the school look presentable and seem concerned about the environmental implications that are created when in fact this does nothing at all. Not to mention the fact that the school has an incredible amount of waste from the leftover food created in the canteen due to the students dislikes whilst the student orders the food that they enjoy ensuring the food is not wasted. 3. So the story goes like this.... a trend of ordering food increases the past year, canteen has less and less demand, PATANA has an DECLINE in profits. NEXTTT, they decide to ban the external food supply so that they remain above the profit margin and a MONOPOLY (IB definition: one firm that dominates the market). now we all know with this much monopoly power, and the inelasticity of food (meaning we have no other choice than to eat what’s provided by school) they will raise the PRICE to increase their PROFIT. Don’t believe me wait til next August when the canteen rises to 100 baht.

This policy increases economic inefficiencies due consumers having less choice being forced into buying food made from a relatively less efficient suppliers ( school ) who cant allocate their factors of production as well as big food chains such a Scoozi and Aunty Anne's. Coupled with the loss of national economic welfare, the decrease in revenue going into food panda and the various food chains will result in a decreases profit margin, resulting in mass unemployment, which pushes real GDP down. The people who got laid off because of us will also have less disposable income, so are now forced to spend less overall, and more on inferior goods , resulting in decreased aggregate demand and an increase in negative externalities of consumption such as obesity and health related issues from eating too much fast food, this also puts a strain on hospitals and medical services decreasing national life expectancy . The decrease in AD pushes output down resulting in a global economic crisis and billions of people will become unemployed and homeless.
