Fix roads, footpaths and consult with ratepayers.

Cinema is small and not needed when there is already an underutilised cinema in Benalla. Information centre and museum certainly need to be upgraded. And why do we need yet another cafe? Council needs to consult with community and eventually build a facility that will be used by locals and visitors.

The proposed design looks like a glorified tin shed and does not add value to the community, local business owners or the overall look of the lake precinct. Who has the contract to build?

We have a cinema. But our road and footpaths and drainages need to be updated

The current cinema is fantastic and very under utilised. It beggars belief why we need another. I do not believe the community understands why the Council is pushing for this project to proceed. We need a feasibility study or certainly more information on the reasoning behind this project. I agree the Information Centre needs an upgrade however to incorporate a cinema and a cafe? I am not convinced this is necessary when we have numerous excellent cafes and a fantastic cinema. I feel the design of the building certainly does not compliment the other buildings or the ambience of the area. I would be great if everyone shares this petition.

Absolutely unnecessary when there are so many more urgent and appropriate projects to which ratepayers money should be directed.

For my point of view Cinema is not the most essential in Benalla. Technology is developing day by day. Almost everyone has internet facilities. Most people has Netflix or sort of channels to watch movies. I feel it such a waste of money.

Until a feasibility study is done and rate payer consultation, this building should not go ahead.

Where is their business plan on this new precinct they are trying to pass without community approval? Show us how our tax payers dollars wont be wasted in an underthought business project. Why not support other local cinemas and businesses first?

The info/ history centre def due and needs a welcome upgrade. I support this but a big NO to cinema and cafe. Time to rethink the old venues (black) and fix the problems there not build a new problem. Too many things like footpaths, gutters, Main Street street scape, car parking and roads need this money. Besides it is an ugly build and not in keeping with the water and surrounding buildings of old. This space is our towns best asset.

The community( as stated in the local Government Act) requires genuine, respectful and meaningful consultation with all aspects of the project and full transparency. This has not yet been undertaken, let alone achieved.

I don't understand why we need another cinema when we already have a perfectly good cinema with a restaurant beside it. The second point is the new proposal looks cheap, nasty and not eye catching on the entrance for the lakeside.

The community must be able to have their say

Our community expects more than empty words when it comes to community consultation about new major projects.

I think you are on to something Judy. If the proposed cinema was going to bring down the cost of the cinema, surely the Council would have done the costings and released it to the public.

And you are going to flog yourself working in your business to pay rates... to subsidise the proposed cafe and cinema. It doesn't seem fair that the Council haven't asked other hospitality businesses to make sure there are enough dollars to go around.

It is assumed the cost to build will be far greater then the cost to lease or rent the cinema at Go Tafe Benalla for the next 20 years. Already a competent venue.
