Junior’s right to play should be protected by our structures and organization. Clubs, tournament organizers, officials, parents, coaches, and the USAB should serve their needs. Our community should be inclusive instead of ignorant. Opportunities should be distributed evenly, to all members, minority groups should not be forgotten, especially that of minors.

Junior communities are proposing the following alternatives regarding the developing of a new structure and junior representation:

1. REWARD CONSOLATION POINTS FOR ALL RANKINGS IN JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS:

Ten reasons supporting the rewarding of consolation points. (please see attached document for more details)

  • Transitioning
  • Skill Development to Reach Higher Potential
  • Healthy Development of Self Concept and Self Confidence
  • Better Assessment
  • More Motivation
  • Coaching
  • Multiple Purposes for Tournaments
  • International Professional Standard vs U.S. Junior Standard
  • Don’t Need to Change Something that Works
  • Fair, in Regard to Tournament Fee
  • Economically Efficient
  • The Need of the Children

2. POSTPONE THE NEW JUNIOR STRUCTURE UNTIL 2018-2019 SEASON FOR MORE REVIEW:

Parents and the community were misled by the USAB when they introduced the new structure.

  • The new structure should be presented as a proposal during JN16 Seattle. Modifications should be considered based on each region's feedbacks. Unfortunately, instead of being presented as a proposal, the new structure was introduced as a completed plan for the future of the USAB.
  • The legality of developing a junior tournament structure process is being questioned.
  • A tournament structure should balance all region’s needs. Some changes are made for solving specific region's problem, but fail to consider the other region’s needs.
  • The USAB did not announce that a tournament structure change was coming. A years notice about a new structure would have been reasonable.

3. MAKE A NEW BOARD SEAT TO REPRESENT JUNIORS:

Juniors and parents’ voices should be heard as much any other group.

  • The fact that a new tournament structure is being developed demonstrates that the juniors' needs are being ignored. The disconnect between the central office and the community misrepresents junior/parent's opinions.
  • JAG is only a bridge between central office and community, and has little to no policy decision power.
  • Juniors remain a large proportion of USAB members, compared to adult athletes, officials, and coaches, whom all have seats on the Board of Direction.

We all wish to promote the sport and support our juniors. Please consider our proposal, which comes directly from the junior community. The junior community is proud to be an equal part of the USAB as much as the other divisions. We believe in the bright future of U.S.A. badminton, but we also wish to be treated as an equal partner.
