Petition:

By signing this petition, I support the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building the temple they have designed in the location they have purchased and dedicated in the Heber Valley.

Supporting Information:

We can't wait to see the Heber Valley Temple start to be built here in the Heber Valley. What an amazing blessing it will be to have a House of the Lord here close to home! Temples bring peace to the surrounding community and help us center our lives on Jesus Christ.

Latter-day Saints are a temple-building and temple-loving people. It has been so from the earliest days of the Church. Temples are different than the thousands of Church meetinghouses located around the world. Temples have a more specific purpose. They are places specially set apart for sacred service and ceremonies. They are designated by the Lord and dedicated to His purposes. Temples are the only places where some priesthood ordinances are authorized to be performed. These sacred ceremonies lift and inspire participants as they make commitments to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. You can learn more about temples here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/temples/why-latter-day-saints-build-temples?lang=eng

We understand that in order to build a temple in this valley, there are legal processes to follow and governmental approvals that need to be obtained. As Latter-day Saints, we value healthy public discourse and respect the opinions of all men and women. We also value the organization and order that good government provides and believe in being responsible citizens of the nations and communities to which we belong. We believe “Governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and … he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society” (Doctrine and Covenants 134:1).

And to live as a free people in safety and peace, we must become informed and involved. “The … happiness of any community,” declared the Prophet Joseph Smith, “goes hand in hand with the knowledge possessed by the people.” As members of the Church prayerfully study the issues and decisions facing today’s communities and nations, they will be able to discern and understand how to apply eternal principles to issues being debated by politicians and public officials. Latter-day Saints are encouraged to be informed and participate in civic and political activities, “to be actively engaged in worthy causes to improve their communities and make them wholesome places in which to live and rear families” in accordance with the laws of their respective governments.

We believe these teachings and principles directly apply to the current issue at hand of constructing a House of the Lord in the Heber Valley. Accordingly, we invite you to take action by learning about the current issues regarding the temple and sign this petition to show our public officials your support of building a temple in the Heber Valley in the location that has been dedicated for this purpose.
