What children want when attending tournaments? They want to play!! Juniors rights to play and wellbeing should be protected by structures and organization. Clubs, tournament organizers, officials, parents, coaches and USAB should serve for their needs, not the otherwise

Our badminton community should be inclusive instead of ignoring. Opportunity should be distributed to all members, power-minority group should not be forgotten, especially minors.

Junior community are proposing the following alternatives regarding the developing of new structure and junior representation.

1. REWARDING CONSOLATION POINTS FOR ALL RANKING JUNIOR TOURNAMENT: Ten reasons for rewarding consolation points

  • Transition
  • Skill Development to Reach Potential
  • Healthy Developing Self Concept and Self Confidence
  • Assessment
  • Motivation
  • Coaching
  • Multiple Purposes of Tournaments
  • International Professional Standard vs U.S. Junior Standard
  • Adaptation
  • Fairness of Paying Tournament Fee
  • Economical Perspective
  • CHILDREN'S NEED

2. POSTPONING THE NEW JUNIOR STRUCTURE UNTIL 2018-2019 SEASON FOR MORE REVIEWING: Parents and community were misled by USAB when introducing the new structure.

  • The new structure should be presented as a proposal during JN16 Seattle. Modifications should be considered based on each region's feedbacks. Unfortunately, instead of presenting as a proposal, new structure was introduced as a done deal plan.
  • The legality of developing junior tournament structure process is questioned.
  • A tournament structure should balance all regions needs. Some changes are made for solving specific region's problem but fail to consider all others' needs.
  • Junior community did not notify that changing tournament structure is coming. A year notice of structure developing will be reasonable.

3. MAKING A NEW BOARD SEAT TO REPRESENT JUNIORS: Juniors and parents’ voices should be heard as any other groups.

  • The process of developing new tournament structure demonstrates that juniors' needs are ignored. The disconnection between central office and community makes junior/parent's opinions misrepresented.
  • JAG is only a bridge between central office and community without policy decision power.
  • Juniors remains the big proportion of USAB members, compare to adult athletes, officials, and coaches, which all have seats in BOD.

We are all on the same boat to promote the sport and to protect our juniors. Please consider our proposal, which is directly from junior community. Junior community is eagerly and proudly to be equal part as other divisions. We believe the bright future of U.S. badminton, and we also want to be treated as equal partner.
