Students need the extra curricular activities as much as their education for their mental health. This is the only way some students feel comfortable interacting with others.

Why does the Gov want in-person classes but not sports? Intimidation to force schools to comply with her misinterpretation of the law?

The virus has a 99.7 chance of survival. By not playing sports, they are at greater risk for many different reasons.

Don't punish the students by cutting off these important activities.

The kids have worked so hard for this and should be allowed to play the sport of choice.

In person instruction at DMPS could potentially mean hundreds of students and staff together in a building at one time; virtual only instruction significantly reduces the risk of spreading covid and inadvertently having a student or staff member bring it home to a compromised family member, causing more unnecessary deaths. However, school activities and athletics are, or can be, conducted in much smaller numbers and still provide students a sense of structure and socialization; improving their overall mental health and sense of well-being. Continuing to be connected to their respective peer communities at this time is vital. As a parent of high school student I see it is the middle ground between a complete lockdown and fully reopening. A calculated, mitigated risk when taken with care and all necessary precautions, to slightly enlarge their bubbles at this time when we continue to see case counts well above the 5% recommended by the CDC and WHO. A mask mandate should be required and enforced for any activities where social distancing may be compromised.

There’s a difference between 15 kids in a sport or club and 300 kids in the school let them play!

We deserve to play we all know the risk but it’s a risk we are signing up for if we don’t want to play we don’t have to
