The problem with this petition is it is targeting several specific things here that really arent the focus of why Madison County was contacted. The reason that MCHS was contacted is because by having the monument placed on government property it violates several things.
The first and chief thing that it violates is separation of church and state.The establishment clause clearly states: "that the government cannot “advance, promote, affiliate with, or favor any particular religion,” or “favor religious belief over disbelief.”
This monument does exactly that. There is no objection that Madison County has a predominantly Christian population. However the fact that they're in the "Bible Belt", they don't sell alcohol on Sundays, or most of them go to church does not change these facts, nor does it change the law. God can and will continue to be a HUGE part of their lives and mine as well. However everyone's beliefs are most certainly not being respected. Specifically those that believe differently than the Christians of Madison County.
If the monument had a quote from Mohammed the propet, a Buddhist priest and Carl Sagan, then and only then could this monument be acceptable because it would not be endorsing a single belief system. This is not an attack on Christian faith and Christians are not being persecuted. Christians are welcome to worship openly. This is America.
Petitions like this serve to benefit no one and in the end will aid nothing, just like that monument. The only ones who benefit are the those who practice Facebook Christianity. And those who disagree, I implore to read Matthew 6:5

James Murray, let me start off by noting there is no amendment, law, what have you, that states "separation of church and state" anywhere, so nothing is being violated there. "Separation of church and state" is but a small piece of a letter penned by Thomas Jefferson and is a metaphorical "law" that society has taken and ran with. I implore you to go back and read this letter and make a note of its context and intent.
Second, the Establishment Clause isn't totally conclusive in this argument. Even Supreme Court Justices have stated that the Establishment Clause doesn't prohibit a private citizen from putting a religious display in a public place. As I'm aware, this monument was donated by a private entity and had no tax money involved. Lets not forget the students even voted for this, therefore the school itself did not endorse any particular religion.

The Establishment Clause does not prohibit a private citizen from placing something in a public place, however it DOES prohibit a private citizen from placing something on Government property. Which is exactly where the monument is now. So that argument is invalid.
Additionally, it is not up to the students who are under the age of 18 to decide or to vote on whether or not a monument is to be erected. It is up to the public and/or the board of education, by and which must then STILL abide by law. The majority rules mentality does not change the fact that still invokes an image of religious endorsement. And the close minded mentality that you're showing here is an example of how this is has been taught.
Furthermore, regarding your separation of church and state reference. That letter is the framework BY DEFINITION of why something like this should never be placed. It is a shining example of defense for religious and non religious alike. Christians should be accepting of this thought process.
