Most schools will let students walk with their class if they are within 1 credit of graduation (since they can complete it in summer school) and simply hold the diploma until the remaining credits are earned, including MMSD. This is simply horrible to do to a child who has faced additional challenges while going to school. Also, to not notify him of this until just a week ago signifies that someone did not do their due dilligence in checking senior credits and making sure Noah was aware of what needed to be accomplished at the BEGINNING of the school year.

Here is my original post, with a brief explanation of what Noah has been through and will continue to go through.
FORE WARNING, LONG POST: I sit writing this post with tears falling down my face, and my heartbreaking for my oldest baby. Noah has overcome SO much in his life; at 17 years old he has dealt with more real life issues than most adults. I have never coddled Noah, he has always been told the truth about the things he will have to deal with in his life. He has a life long disease, he will always and forever have to go to the hospital, every 3 weeks to have a transfusion of immunoglobulins put into his body, these will protect him from illnesses that we "normal" people get immunized for, a common cold is usually not just a common cold to Noahs body. Noah was diagnosed during middle school, he missed A LOT of school, he was in and out of the hospital, in eight grade we received a diagnosis finally of Hypogammaglobulinemia, meaning Noah is deficient in two or more gammaglobulins, these are what makes your immune system work correctly, it also involves B cells and T cells, however Noahs B cell involvement is less than some, those little B's don't always do what their suppose to in Noahs body, this is why he gets sick SO much and it takes his body more time to recover from simple illnesses. So, how does this relate to tears falling down my face and my heart breaking, well, it has been decided by the powers that be at Verona area High School that because Noah has missed so much school, and that in turn but him approx 2 weeks behind in math ( math is done on line and they are only allowed 5 hrs per day, which may seem like a lot, but it isn't like a math class with a lesson or two a day are assigned, and they can not move the time for extra work to be done) Noah will not be allowed to walk in the graduation ceremony on Sunday, we were informed of this LAST WEEK WEDNESDAY!!!!!!! Noah IS GRADUATING, he has to attend summer school until the end of June to finish

Noah has worked very hard to get where he is today all while fighting to stay healthy!! It is unfair of the school district to single him out and not let him walk across the stage with his class. A class that he has been a part of for 12 years. It is an absolute disgrace that he has been put into this position in the first place. If the school officials had done their due diligence Noah and his family should have been told earlier in the semester that he was falling short due to his illness and needed to catch up not wait until a week out. This is medical discrimination and should not be tolerated. Especially since this rule is not applied or enforced across the board as there are a number of kids that are walking this weekend that will not be receiving their diplomas until the completion of summer school. Very disappointed in the school especially the superintendent for being a bully and setting a very poor example of what a school official should be!!!!

Noah is my son, he fights a battle everyday with his health, this battle will never end! This disease is life long! Noah is 1/2 of a credit short, SHAME ON YOU VERONA for using my son as a pawn in some game and it is not right! Noah does have a Medical 504 plan, so the district can not use his attendance against him in anyway, so they are using the fact that he has to get 1/2 a credit in summer school as the reason! Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart for supporting my son!!!!!!

Even if we have our disagreements, I still think he should get to walk. It would be unfair of them to say he cant.

Noah is a close friend of mine and it is completely unjust for him not to be able to walk with us, especially when there are other students that are also going to go through summer school that are walking.

In many districts, they let students participate in graduation even if they have to go to summer school and they hand them what looks like a diploma, but it actually is not. That is a compassionate solution and it seems like it would work in this case.
