The New York Islanders High School Hockey League confirmed today that Noah is cleared to finish the season. Formal communication will be sent to the coaching staff to finalize his registration status immediately.

Our son Noah Kaplan is a senior at Cold Spring Harbor High School. The board of The New York Islanders High School Hockey League, which runs Cold Spring Harbor High School Hockey, is trying to stop him from playing because they say he has played 5 seasons and only 4 are allowed. He was injured all last season and he did not play. This would be his 4th season. Noah is within the age requirement. They also approved him, we paid the dues, and he played in 2 games so far. Cold Spring Harbor High School and his team are in support of Noah because they believe he should play 100%. He’s a great kid who just wants to play with his friends his last year of high school. I hope the decision will allow Noah Kaplan play as he missed an entire season due to injury. Also, senior year participation is every important for college recruiting .
The board of the league is abusing power and doesn't care about the values, lessons and friendships that come from high school hockey. Everyone on the board are coaches of other teams that fear Mr. Kaplan's skill.
It seems quite unfair to first allow him to play and then decide afterwards that he can't. You should be ashamed of your actions and need to take a closer look at the facts.
Noah Kaplan should be allowed to play his final 4th season. Students participation should be reviewed on a case by case basis. If a student has had an injury they should be granted the leniency to play the sport they love after recovery.
NYSAHA Annual Guide states that a prep school student is permitted to have played a maximum of 4 games and still play for the high school club team. Page 48 (2019-2020) in the NYSAHA Annual Guide. Noah played in 3 games last season. He is eligible to play.

Eligibility restrictions exist to ensure systems can’t be manipulated in unsportsmanlike fashion and others disadvantaged. Clearly not the situation here. At the very least, let’s have this set precedent for reconsideration of overly-simplified restrictions.
