(C/0 2008) Mr. Fish was not only a teacher, but a mentor to his students. His passion for literature and self-expression invoked a love for those things in myself. His enthusiasm for teaching kept me engaged, focused, and interested in the subject-matter of his class. Mr. Fish is a tremendous asset to Easley High School. It would be a shame and a disservice to those who will miss out on his class if he is stripped of his position at EHS.

I don't know the whole story here, but from the comments I have read (and I know students who had him) he sounds like an amazing teacher. As a parent, I would be thrilled to know my children were as inspired and encouraged by a teacher as these students at EHS. This caliber of teacher is hard to come by these days. If this had been a classroom of kindergarteners, I could understand the concern. But these are high school students who are exposed to far worse in their daily exchanges with friends--outside the construct of the classroom and intelligent discussion. Being offended is a part of life. Teach your kids to deal with it without devastating a teacher who is simply doing his job.

This should have been handled differently. It is rare to find a teacher that really focuses on preparing students for the future. I have two children at Easley and they are in disbelief that this has happened. I hope that the response to this petition grabs the attention of the administration. These kids are respectfully expressing their opinions and deserve to be heard.

The best teachers challenge us to think beyond the confines of our preconceived notions of identity in order to understand the world around us and to better relate to its diverse people. Fish did that better than most; unfortunately in the South where our worldview can be so much more limited he has pushed the bounds of what is acceptable. It's time to practice what is preached and institute some forgiveness for a teacher who still means a great deal to his current students and those from 10 years ago.

I had Mr. Fish for English 3 Honors and for Yearbook. There could not be a more relatable and invested teacher in the entire school. He cares about his students and about teaching, he has such a passion for what he does and fully respects his students. Students want to do well in his class because his passion for the subjects drives them to succeed and his respect for students as individuals is probably the first time young people realize how to learn with autonomy and think for themselves. Having the administration remove such an exceptional educator would be a massive mistake on their part, and one I hope they don't make. I want for my younger siblings to have the chance to learn from Mr. Fish because he is the teacher whose made the most impact on my life, and so many others'.

Mr. Fish was hands down the best teacher I've ever had. He was also a role model and instrumental to many students' success. He needs to be reinstated.

I felt like he was my second father. It hurts me to think he's being prevented from impacting others like he impacted me. His shoes cannot be filled - he's too special.
You can't let a great teacher like him go.
