Kid can roll a turkey and still not good enough for the team? I'm wondering what bowling prodigies exist in this tiny piece of central Jersey that MUST comprise the existing HHS Bowling team that Michael's ability isn't good enough. As a former student I am disgusted by the cowardice and weakness displayed by the administration. I transferred from elsewhere in the district to Howell at that time because I knew HHS had the resources within their extracurriculars to do so to allow me to find my stride. Yet here we have someone being denied that same opportunity. And for what? Hey coach, if it were YOUR kid, I’d let em’ bowl in the blink of an eye.

Discrimination at any level is wrong however coming directly from school administration is downright despicable -- to overcome prejudice and adversity in the world is to be expected from anyone; much less someone with a disability of any kind. It is entirely plausible to assume the school is uninterested in this individuals desire to overcome adversity and instead is looking to earn itself another plaque or commendation. As a former student of the Freehold Regional district I am saddened to hear that this highly respected school would dare to avoid confrontation and made no attempts to explain their position prior to the beginning of practice. Either stand firm on your declaration or allow him the opportunity but do not attempt to temporarily appease a family. I've had the pleasure to speak and work with a few autistic and savant individuals whom have proven to be far more intelligent and kind than nearly anyone else I've dealt with, including some choice staff at Howell High School. You cannot possibly encourage ones development while preventing them from participating in something they themselves sought out. I encourage HHS to reevaluate their decision and to help encourage this fearless man to acheive his goals that at that age, I myself hadnt even begun to set much less see them through to fruition. Good luck Michael!
