This is way past due. Why must our church always be the last to implement things like protecting children?!

The current church handbook instruction to leaders outlining the church’s abuse hotline be contacted before law enforcement protects the church and the church’s name, not the victims. A brand should never be placed above the importance of a child of heavenly parents.

This change is absolutely necessary. Crime must be reported.

I support this. I am active LDS. I feel that clergy should be mandatory reporters.

Part of the repentance process is restitution and there are consequences for our actions. Do not protect and enable perpetrators over the innocent victims.

This should already be a thing. Do it.

This is a no brainer! If you step back and realize it’s only clergy who refuse to be mandatory reporters, that’s a disgusting reality. If you’re wondering why that is….money.

I take abuse reporting training every year for my job in school-based mental health. Psychologists are trained to let clients know that everything is confidential UNLESS they are at risk of hurting themselves or others. It would take 10seconds for bishops to say this when meeting with people about personal struggles. It would be even better if more thorough abuse reporting training created outside the church organization was also required.
