At Jamesville Dewitt Middle School LGBTQ+ students are being silenced by the administration. A club was started to give pride to lgbt students that might be bullied or harassed in school. The name GSA(gender and sexuality alliance) was shot down for being too straight forward of what the club was for. So the name Acceptance Coilition was put in for the club. When making the flyers we couldn't use any sign to show we were lgbt. We couldn't use Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender ect for the flyers or on the announcements. Apparently the administration fears that a younger child that goes to the school might not know what lgbt is, and have the parents angry at the school for teaching the child about LGBT and our struggles. I, as a student would like to have the right to put out flyers and state out loud that I am LGBT. We should have the rights as humans to do so. We need to not stray younger students away from LGBT, we need to introduce them to it and show them that its okay and its normal to love someone and to be who you feel on the inside. From when I first heard this I was angry. I'd like to have this right by the next meeting of the club, if not sooner.
