I am a former student of Golden Valley High School, where my passion for dance and Mexican Folklórico first began in the school’s Folklórico Club. Today, I continue to dance as a member of Ballet Folklórico Ritmo y Sabor at Bakersfield College, and through this experience I have been given incredible opportunities and lifelong memories.
Our team travels out of state to compete and has placed at every competition we’ve attended. This past summer, we were honored with the opportunity to travel to Veracruz, Mexico, where we trained with prestigious maestros and deepened our understanding of the art form.
Folklórico is so much more than dancing in colorful costumes. It brings people together, builds discipline, encourages creativity, and develops skills that carry into the real world. It opens doors to leadership, cultural awareness, travel, and personal growth.
Golden Valley High School students deserve the same opportunities as students at other schools — the chance to experience the cultural, personal, and academic benefits that Folklórico provides.

Hello I was a former student at Golden Valley high school my freshman year and I am now a sophomore at Del Oro High school. I believe their Folklorico program should be a class period for the school week. Del Oro High School Folklorico group is a class and it helps the students learn more steps dances and gets more practice in for the day. It also helps with credit for the A - G requirement!! Golden Valley Folklorico group is an afterschool program which a lot of students in the group can make it because of other stuff as in family/after school sports/work etc. So I do believe it should be a regular art class to help and the students and get credit through that too!! Folklorico is very cultural and beautiful with its amazing dance dances and different regions as in Sinaloa, Jalisco, Veracruz and many others. It helps teach you about different regions in Mexico and it seems a lot of students enjoy seeing performances from the afterschool program at GVHS! let make our peers feel heard and have a Folklorico class for the new school year 26-27.
