Let Golden Valley Students Earn Credit for Ballet Folklórico
We, the students, parents, families, and community members of Golden Valley High School, respectfully request that Kern High School District create a credit‑bearing Ballet Folklórico dance class at Golden Valley starting in the 2026–2027 school year.
Right now, Ballet Folklórico at Golden Valley is only an after‑school club. Students rehearse and perform at a high level, but they receive no class credit, no scheduled time during the day, and very limited school resources. Many families are paying out of pocket for shoes, pants, shirts, fans, and other costume pieces so students can perform with dignity and represent our culture proudly.
Other high schools in the district already offer Folklórico as a class, giving their students credit and regular class time for the same type of work. Golden Valley students deserve the same opportunity to earn credit for this rigorous, culturally rich performing art.
Ballet Folklórico is a form of dance that can meet the UC/CSU A–G “f” visual and performing arts requirement when offered as a year‑long course, helping students stay on track for college while honoring their culture and identity.
We are asking Kern High School District and Golden Valley administration to:
- Approve a Ballet Folklórico dance course at Golden Valley High School starting in 2026–2027.
- Schedule it during the school day so students receive credit and consistent instructional time.
- Provide basic support for facilities and costumes, alongside the fundraising that families already do.
By signing this petition, we show our strong support for turning Ballet Folklórico from “just a club” into the full, credit‑bearing class our students and community deserve.
