in lieu of destruction, why not. at least you know the person is trained in its use and should be able to pass any background investigation.

It just makes sense to allow these officers to keep their issued firearms. A simple form being signed releasing the Government from any and all liability would suffice. If you wanted to go another route, have them conduct a transfer of the firearm through a FFL, that would document transfer of ownership (liability).

1811 with HHS-OIG and former FAM. We should have the right to inherit our duty firearm at retirement.

Ridiculous that Feds are treated with such a lack of trust. More training hours on the weapons than local PDs, yet big govt takes our tool away. I would love to be able to keep my service weapon. It keeps me safe every day in the field, and it deserves to be kept safe by me.

Destroying perfectly good firearms is a wasteful practice. Allowing them to be purchased by retiring LEO'S would actually save the federal government money, and reduce the budgetary constraints of many agencies.

Can't believe we have to ask for this. Seriously, where would that firearm go? It can't go to a new hire. This is a no brainer.
