Losing contact with Grandparents on top of losing their Father is a double harm to the children. Surely there must be a way.

C'mon Wendy, this is just making you look guilty of assisting with the crime. The grandparents deserve to see their grandkids. Just imagine if you were them. How would it make you feel?
