Let Crystal wear her FCCLA Cords for Graduation!! The School Board and the Superintendant believe that she should not be able to wear them for Graduation. She was a State FCCLA Officer and it is a huge honor for a student to represent the school on a State Level. There are only 10 students through the State of Indiana that hold this position and she was one of them. Apparently the work she put in to this organization and being able to represent her school on the State Level wasn't important enough. Please help Crystal wear her FCCLA Cords at Graduation!

Updates

June 3, 2016

I just spent the morning staring at the handbook again and honestly the rules feel more like suggestions when they want them to be but set in stone when it comes to Crystal. Still waiting on a real response from the district office besides those canned emails that clearly were written by someone who has never met a student like her. It keeps me up at night thinking about how many hours she poured into state level work just for them to act like it never happened.

June 3, 2016

I honestly cannot believe how many people have jumped on board this fight because it really shows that Crystal's hard work meant something to everyone else too. Seeing this much momentum building behind her is just wild and it makes me think that maybe the school board will actually have to listen to us for once since they seem so stuck in their ways.

I had the same problem back in 2009 at my high school graduation, so I understand how it feels when school admins don't understand the time and energy you put into FCCLA. Your leadership experience is just as impressive and valuable as your peers' involvement in the National Honor Society or sports championships.

Being a state officer takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and responsibility, she earned the right to wear the senior cords. FCCLA is a highly respected organization and deserves to be recognized on Chrystal's important day

FFA is not allowed to wear anything special. Neither is Student council, FCA, or any other clubs for that matter. We understand that you truly do want to show your love For FCCLA, but it is not allowed and no one has ever worn a FCCLA cord at graduation. With all the cords allowed what would be the point of deserving the cord? FCCLA is to help your community, your family, and others. It's not about what looks good on your college application or on your graduation gown.

I was a state officer for Indiana FCCLA as well and I was allowed to wear mine because my school respected my achievements. It sounds like North Newton School Corporation doesn't respect their students achievements.

I'm also trying to wear my FCCLA cord for when I graduate next year and it's frustrating that my hard work to represent Iowa FCCLA as well as my school apparently wasn't enough to be recognized for when I graduate. I hope this works out for you!

You are allowed your own opinion. But from what everyone is saying that is against this they make it seem like I do not do anything. But I DO do a lot. More than what people think. I've planned tons of things. I planned the dances (formals) at our school. However, I was not able to be there to set up because I had prior State Officer Duties that were planned before the dances were scheduled. I have done more than enough for this club and it's disheartening that some people are against me wearing these cords at Graduation. It is all your opinion though. Before I was even a Member of FCCLA I had helped out numerous times and I was only in 4th grade. Please have your information right before you say I didn't put forth as much effort as I have.
