We the undersigned seek to end the discrimination against high school boys in Michigan’s competitive cheer arena. Our objective is to get MHSAA to make competitive cheer a non-gender-specific sport as are wrestling, football, ice hockey, and baseball, thereby allowing both boys and girls to compete in all high school cheer competitions including all post-season competitions. If you would like any more information or would like to see how you can further get involved please contact Macie Taylor or Lily Bourret at [email protected]

The emails I receive from families across the state show just how much this change is needed despite the slow progress. I have been spending my nights sending inquiries to the board and honestly the lack of a clear answer is draining. We are staying on this because the rules as they stand are outdated and unjust.

I think that if every other state in the United States of America allows boys to compete in Highschool Cheer, then why is Michigan the only one that doesn't. Does Michigan really want to be behind in sports?

Girls can do football, hockey, powerlifting so why can't boys do cheerleading, I mean they consider those "boys sports"

My 15 year old son is an awesome cheerleader, very fun to watch, but he's only allowed to cheer for football, not competitive cheer. What a waste of great talent.

As a former cheerleader, I think it's only fair to open this up to both sexes and let anyone that wants to participate in this sport, participate!!

I think it's rediclous that he could compete legally until he reached the last competition

I know Hunter is passionate about cheer. He should be allowed and encouraged to pursue this passion through the MHSAA.
