Since the AQHA changed its color rules more than a decade ago, the APHA has consistently lost ground--by disadvantaging 1/3 of the horses that hit the ground each year. As the breed shrinks, providing maximum participation for solids becomes even more important. Most recently, fewer than 10K APHA are bred worldwide, of which more than one third or solid. This is not a sufficient number of horses to create a pool of prospects for the show ring. It's long past time to remove the artificial distinction between a horse with no spot and one with a spot under the saddle. Reward color rather than penalize lack of thereof--the breed will do better.

I have always thought the solids should be allowed to show in the non pointed classes.

We need to make a change! If it doesn't work, you can always change it back. Anything is worth a try at this point.

A foal from 2 paint parents can only be a paint, with or without spots.

A rule change proposal is in the works for that as well. I myself crossed my lethal mare on quarters because many of the great WP overo paint studs were also lethal. There are many that feel the same. If they carry the white genes, they can throw it even if it's not expressed in that generation. Be sure to sign that one when it goes around!

I believe this is a fair and equitable step in the right direction to create a real value to SPB's.

APHA, your show entries are falling, as well as the value of your horses. Time to think outside the box and include spb

Definitely wish APHA would also consider 1 Paint parent if the horses carries the color gene as well! I have a Mechanic filly who is SPB out of a APHA Overo mare who I just received back her DNA testing and she carries the gene but is not eligible as she has only 1 Paint parent
