The regulation has finally been updated to include UTVs and 2up ATVs. It feels surreal to know we can now ride these trails without looking over our shoulders. Thank you for pushing for this change alongside me.

Dear Mr. Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Transportation.

For several years now, All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) have been defined by Ontario Regulation 316/03. This Legislation however, doesn't consider the upwards trend that is taking place in the market with ATV's manufactured for 2 people (2ups) and Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV's). Currently, the manufactures have set the safety standards. Now it is time we get them legalized on equal terms with the rest of the ATV's.

These same manufactures have developed touring snowmobiles (for 2 people) and they are accepted by the Ministry, so why should the ATV's be treated any different There have been many 2 ups and UTV's sold in Ontario, but due to the current definitions in Ontario Regulation 316/03. ATV organizations and clubs have a hard time providing safe and secure access for these vehicles on their trail systems. As they are not allowed on the road links needed to connect trails.

We here-by request Ontario Regulation 316/03 be revised to include 2ups and UTV's.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Seeing the count climb toward one thousand shows me that I am not the only one frustrated by these outdated trail restrictions. If you know someone who rides a UTV or a 2up, please send them this link right now to help us break through this threshold.

I have spent the last few days talking with local trail clubs about the specific roadblocks they face because of these outdated definitions. It is clear that our inability to use road links is actively preventing families from riding together safely.

Its ridiculous I have to load my utv on a trailer just to cross a road to get to the trail. Need this fixed asap.

My husband and I bought a 2up last year and we barely use it because of these outdated rules. Very frustrating.

Same thing happened to me. Got a ticket for taking my wife out on the 2up. Makes no sense when snowmobiles are fine.

Recently I was stopped by police coming off Lake Simcoe driving my utv. Iam 64 years old and had a bad stroke 6 yrs ago and was paralyzed for a year. After extense physiotherapy I regained the use of my ams and legs but my legs are very weak. I live in the country and bought my utv to use as a power scooter as a normal one is useless where I live to regain some sort of normal life. I used it all last year and it was inspected many times by the same police force and was never told I needed a helmet or could not drive it on the road under the atv bylaw in place in my area, This time a young cop wanted to know where my helmet was and that I could not drive it on the road. I explained that I was confused based on the above but that I was disabled and took water pills and needed to releive myself badly after which I would be glad to discuss the utv matter . He replied that i could not do this as it was against the law and would not let me out of the utv. I asked again several times at that I was in distress. The answer was always no. Finally in desperation I said this is rediculious and slowy pushed him out of the way with the back of my hand and said I have to pee now. What a mistake. I was driven face first into the asphalt by him and his partner ,hand cuffed, arrested and charged with assulting police and resisting arrest. amazingly when they called there station to lay the charges I was suddenly released and only given a ticket for no helmet. After this I went on the internet only to discover the the problem that is the subject of this petition. I hope no one else has to go through what I have before the problem is fixed. As a disabled senior I can not beleive how I was treated by these young officers over such a silly incident that could have been avoided by using a little commen sense.
