Throughout history marijuana was used as a medicine to aid many illnesses and symptoms. The cannabinoids along with the THC found in marijuana have proven to relieve pain and act as a sleeping aid for people with insomnia. With very little known negative side effects, marijuana has very significant medical use. However in the United States it is considered a schedule one drug, meaning it has high potential for addiction and little to no medical value. Despite recent studies showing that it does in fact help with chronic pain and does not contain an addictive chemical, medical marijuana is illegal, on a federal level, in the United States. Though several states have made it legal for use, in states like Texas many people who need this medicine are denied their right to. Legalizing medical marijuana in Texas would give many people new options for treatment and may be the best choice for them to recover. Marijuana needs to be legalized in Texas because it will cause less damage on the body than other pain killers and it will give the ill a new option for pain relief.
